Around the World
A downloadable game for Windows
ABOUT
In 'Around The World', you play a quiz with an actual globe and point at different countries as you answer questions from topics such as Food, People and Places. The levels are divided into topics and your task is to answer the question ie. point to the correct location before the timer runs out.
Challenge your knowledge of Geography and Pop Culture, see if you can answer everything correctly, and become a 'Worldwide' phenomenon!
SETUP
The globe used in the game was bought from the Flea Market (Feira de Ladra) in Lisbon, Portugal. An Arduino Nano was used as the microcontroller for this setup.
A laser pointer was attached to a rotating apparatus already included in the globe through a pulley and connected by a knob. A potentiometer connected to the knob calculates the rotational value and translates it into the longitude of the place the laser points to.
On the top of the globe, an infinite encoder was fixed which was used to take as input the amount by which the Earth rotates west or east and translates it to the latitude of the pointed location. The latitude and longitude in turn give us the name of the country.
